She Left Everything She Knew at Six Years Old
Her grandfather’s arms.
Her grandmother’s prayers.
The only home she had ever known.
At six years old, Chimdi Mfebe left Nigeria and arrived in the United States carrying more than a suitcase.
She carried the hopes of one family, the sacrifices of another, and a future no one could yet see.
America became the only home she remembered.
But for 22 years, the country she called home would not legally call her its own.
She was bullied because of her accent.
She helped parent her younger sisters before she was old enough to understand the weight she was carrying.
At fifteen, she discovered that her immigration status could prevent her from legally working, pursuing opportunities, and building the future she had been taught to believe was possible.
Nursing school pushed her to the edge of exhaustion.
Her immigration status held her future hostage.
A distant father left wounds she did not know how to name.
And grief arrived even as she was becoming a wife, a mother, and a registered nurse.
But through every unanswered question, closed door, delay, and disappointment, one truth remained:
She was called—and she was covered.
This Is More Than an Immigration Story
Called and Covered is a story about what happens when faith must survive uncertainty.
It is about a mother who worked around the clock.
A grandmother who prayed as if a child’s future depended on it.
A grandfather whose presence and love helped shape the early foundation of her life.
A little girl who learned how to carry responsibilities far beyond her years.
A young woman who refused to let an immigration designation determine her identity, silence her dreams, or write the final chapter of her life.
It is about love stretched across two cultures.
Faith tested by delay.
Purpose developed through adversity.
And a God who continued providing when every visible option seemed to disappear.

Meet Chimdi Mfebe
Chimdi Mfebe is a wife, mother, registered nurse, woman of faith, and former undocumented child whose life reflects the extraordinary power of perseverance, family, and divine provision.
Born in Nigeria, Chimdi came to the United States at six years old.
She grew up navigating the tension between belonging to the only country she could remember calling home and living with an immigration status that continually threatened her future.
Her journey carried her through cultural displacement, bullying, family separation, nursing school, immigration uncertainty, marriage across cultures, motherhood, and grief.
Through it all, Chimdi held on to a faith that refused to let her go.
Called and Covered is her testimony—not of a life without hardship, but of a life in which hardship never had the final word.
A Personal Message from Chimdi
I wrote Called and Covered for anyone who has ever felt caught between where they came from and where they were trying to go.
I wrote it for the child who had to grow up too quickly.
For the mother, grandmother, and grandfather who prayed over a future they could not control.
For the immigrant who has wondered whether there will ever be a place to fully belong.
For the student working toward a dream while circumstances seem determined to close every door.
And for the person who has waited so long for an answer that silence has started to feel like rejection.
There were seasons when I could not see how my story would come together.
There were moments when my immigration status, family circumstances, grief, and uncertainty appeared stronger than the promise I was holding.
But God never stopped writing.
Every delay carried a lesson.
Every detour became preparation.
Every closed door redirected my steps.
And through it all, I remained called and covered.
If you have ever wondered whether God still sees you in the middle of your waiting, I wrote this book for you.
I hope you will join me as one of the first 500 readers.
With gratitude,
Chimdi Mfebe
